Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) in Topeka, KS has an opportunity for an Experienced Construction Inspector. This role involves inspecting, reviewing, and reporting on various types of construction projects to ensure compliance with regulations and specifications. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to work across various disciplines and with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect various types of construction projects, including civil, municipal, architectural, structural, and environmental disciplines, ensuring compliance with regulations and contract specifications.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, attend pre-bid and pre-construction meetings, and make recommendations for necessary changes to resolve violations.
  • Complete and maintain inspection reports, log contractor pay item quantities, schedule and observe testing, and conduct final inspections.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with employees, managers, and representatives from other departments and organizations.
  • Perform materials testing in the field as needed and work in outdoor environments in various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of construction inspection experience preferred, with KDOT Inspection and American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certifications also preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques of civil construction and commercial development, as well as relevant safety regulations and procedures.
  • Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, and specifications, and the ability to effectively communicate complex technical information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and PDF, with the ability to operate tools and equipment such as smartphones, scan/copy machines, and motor vehicles.
  • High school diploma or GED required; current/valid driver's license also necessary.
